Yeah I said it! Guns and Roses came onto the scene and short of catching your mom having sex there was nothing more shocking than appetite for destruction. Some scrawny red headed bandanna wearing foul mouthed nut case called Axl rose holding the mic Screaming his message "Do you know where you are, you're in the jungle baby and you're gonna die".
As the story goes it's about some black guy who mouths off to Axl as he arrives in L/A. Having lived there it's totally believable since half the people there are say well....a few cookies short. No offense it's just true, the city is nuts that's why the artists that come from there rock so hard!
As a teen I loved anything I was told not to do! I grabbed a beer and turned the radio up as loud as it could go (while my parents were out) thrashing the living room to Guns and Roses! Anyone who Say's yeah it's an OK album is a fool! Yup, you have no musical sense to you and you don't know music if you feel that way. Even if you don't like Rock N' Roll you have to realize the musical genius this album has. The mix is perfect, the dueling guitar riffs, the writing behind them and the producing that went into this album are monstrous. The album full of rants and raves about their hard life and from what I hear they lived some fucked up shit! Noted For changing music Guns N' Roses have been credited with reviving the mainstream popularity of rock at a time when popular music was dominated by dance music and pop metal acts.
Since then, few bands have written Albums that kicked ass with the power that comes from songs like "Out ta Get Me". Yes I know there are a few you all love and worship, cool I get it but they didn't change everything all at once and make the whole world stop and listen. My point is this was simply the best rock album ever written. It surpasses led zepplin In my eyes but only by a hair! The bands sound was Axls crazy grainy 10 packs of smokes a day bi-polar seaming rock vibe he gave backed with lyrics that incited riots!
The guitar was famous for it's rock riffs and to be honest Slash schooled most anyone in rock guitar! Not sure if anyone will ever be better than slash for writing rock riffs.Slash is simply the Micheal Jordan of Rock guitar hands down! Yes jimmy page was one of the best rock guitarist ever if not the best and of course Jimmy Hendrix but when it comes to writing a master piece, an album Slash was God and the rest were just followers!
Duff and his bass were what legends were made of with his fills and unbelievable style that made the band who they were. Quoted as saying when Steven Adler was to be replaced In response to an interviewer's suggestion that replacing Adler with Sorum had turned Guns N' Roses from a rock 'n' roll band into a heavy metal one, Stradlin responded, "Yeah, a big musical difference. The first time I realized what Steve did for the band was when he broke his hand in Michigan. Tried to punch through a wall and busted his hand. So we had Fred Coury come in from Cinderella for the Houston show. Fred played technically good and steady, but the songs sounded just awful. They were written with Steve playing the drums and his sense of swing was the push and pull that give the songs their feel. When that was gone, it was just...unbelievable, weird. Nothing worked. I would have preferred to continue with Steve, but we'd had two years off and we couldn't wait any longer. It just didn't work for Slash to be telling Steve to straighten out. He wasn't ready to clean up.
See it's hard at the top but one thing is clear that album Appetite for Destruction and G N' R Lies (1987–1989) turned the music world on it's head and the album kicked ass from note one till the last note and it's one of only ten albums I can recall that did so. The album, the writing, the songs, the lyrics, the sounds slaved over to perfection! So thank you Guns and roses for your hard work! I listened to your album 2 million times and I lived it! I spent many a nights drinking Night train because the band wrote a song about it and even though it tasted like shit I still drank it so here's to you G-N-R Your the best rock album that will ever be so hold your head up high and never let anyone tell you other wise!

After actually finding the time to edit this article(which I rarely ever do but wish I could every time) I added a few things to this and I must say I agree 100% that this album (as I stated above) had the best producing and it surely wouldn't have been the same if the producer didn't do his job. The riffs are some of the best in history. Duff and Steven Adler's groove made this album what it was along with Axl's incredible (at the time) voice. After Steven's departure due to drug problems they brought in Matt Sorum and he clearly didn't have the attitude or groove of Mr. Adler. To me, the real Guns and Roses were already done. The fill's from Sorum were way under par and which made Duff's fills and overall feel less intriguing. The change of drummer even affected Slash and the writing I am sure. Use your Illusion didn't live up to Appetite and No pure Rock N' Roll album probably ever will.
