DETROIT CREATIVE COLLECTIVE CELEBRATES LOCAL ART, MUSIC, AND FILM

Local Artists Celebrate Detroit in Benefit of Penrickton Center for Blind Children

Aficionados of the Detroit arts scene will be in for a treat this November 2nd when the Detroit Creative Collective – A Festival of Art, Music, and Film, takes over Detroit’s Hastings Street Ballroom and Tangent Gallery.

The “Festival” is a grass roots gathering that includes some of the city’s most respected artists and newcomers as well, all in the name of Detroit.  Proceeds will benefit Michigan’s Penrickton Center for Blind Children.

The centerpiece of the evening will be an exclusive screening of “Louder Than Love – The Story of the Grande Ballroom”, by first time director and Detroit native Tony D’Annunzio.  In the late 1960s, the Grande helped to break some of America’s most iconic rock bands including MC5, Iggy and the Stooges and Ted Nugent and the Amboy Dukes, who inspired bands all over the U.S. and Great Britain. Legendary acts such as Led Zeppelin, Cream, B.B. King, Janis Joplin, Pink Floyd and the Who played the Grande on a regular basis. “Louder” has been receiving accolades from film festivals in 2012 and is enjoying capacity crowds everywhere it is shown.

Those familiar with the legend that is the “Grande” will appreciate the artwork on display and available for silent auction by photographer of rock icons, Leni Sinclair and artists Gary Grimshaw and Carl Lundgren, who captured the spirit of Rock and Roll in Detroit with their psychedelic posters. Mark Arminski, Master of Color, will have work on display and will be offering one of his prints for auction as well.

Johnny Bee Badanjek, widely know as the drummer for Mitch Ryder and the Wheels, will show art on canvas. Jason Seaman, Jeff Shea (Wholeshot Tattoo), and photographer Bryan Mitchell will exhibit works influenced by life and music in the Motor City now. Rounding out the evening will be live music by Jennifer Westwood and The Waycross Georgia Farmboys (from Detroit), and Bixy Lutz.

“This is going to be a special evening due to the sense of community that has developed around this event,” says Westwood, one of the organizers. “We are really thankful to Penrickton for bringing out the best in everyone”.

A limited number of VIP tickets are available that include a meet and greet with the artists, reserved seating for the film, and a gift.  Tickets are available at www.brownpapertickets.com

For more information, or to schedule an interview, please contact Jennifer Westwood at 248-797-8373. We just Got an update Via Facebook from Jennifer

That Legend Dick Wagner called her and wishes to participate in the benefit! This is a Must be Event to attend!
