One World Under Metal
By Mick Michaels of Corners of Sanctuary © 2012
Music is a phenomenal medium. Its reach is worldwide yet its touch has such effect
hitting right here at home. Music is an expression of not only creativity but a personal
exploration of character and self.
Whether we are the creator or the listener, music has an impact. Music holds a
special place for each of us. We all have our favorite genre and each of us has that
one special song that simply rocks our world to the foundation.
Music is universal and serves as the soundtrack of our lives – consciously or
sub‐consciously. Many of us can pinpoint or totally recall a particular time in our
lives simply by song association.
Music is free to be and is only limited by our imagination. Emotions are triggered by
the sound of music – the hills are not the only things to come alive by its voice.
Music has the power to lift spirits and change lives.
Music is part of our very existence. At the core, all cultures, all societies, all peoples
throughout time have implemented music as part of their being – as part
of what they do. Music has been used to celebrate all facets of life itself – from the
ordinary to the grand. Music has always existed in one form or another.
For the Metal community, our music serves as the backbone of our existence. It is
the fire that lights our way and the beat we all bang our heads to. For some
individuals it is morning, noon and night, 24/7, sh*t, shower and shave Metal –
whether it’s a Kojack up top or one down below, Metal runs through our veins!
Here in the States Metal has been the war cry of the youth – the rebellious love song
of our time. For our European and Asian counterparts, Metal is
a way of life – the definitive element of their subsistence ‐ the harder, the heavier,
the better.
Metal is their mark. Often, the world taking its cues by their lead – the Beatles, Black Sabbath,
and New Wave British Heavy Metal. Regardless, we all embrace the power load it
hands us – “Thank you Sir, may I have another?” Or as Ace would say,
“I’m down to the bare wire…Shock Me!” Metal can be summed up or described
in one word: influential.
It says it all. Metal aspires and inspires and has been doing so for more than forty
years. It has stood the test of time, time and again. There are still naysayers but their
influence does not carry much weight in today’s onslaught of Metal mania.
The music speaks for itself – it always has. The power is our choice. The juggernaut
has yet to be stopped, its voice, yet to be silenced.
Its evolution is a revolution. The Metal Gods on high look down on us with favor
and delight as we continue and collectively rock n’ roll all night and party every day.
The hills are charged with the sounds of Metal and it is alive and kickin’. So grab
your lollipops and ask yourself…“Who loves you baby?” \m/\m/
